New Firewall Protection For Corporate Windows Servers|
Deerfield.com To Offer Latest Software Firewall From Kerio Technologies
GAYLORD, MI — November 9, 2004 — Deerfield.com, an international provider of security and messaging software, announced today the availability of Kerio ServerFirewall, a new software firewall from Kerio Technologies developed specifically to protect Windows server operating systems and server applications. Deerfield.com now offers the complete line of Kerio products via its corporate and archive websites and distribution channel.
“We are pleased to offer Kerio ServerFirewall alongside WinRoute Firewall, an Internet sharing/corporate gateway solution, and VisNetic Firewall, a rules-based software firewall also designed for servers as well as workstations,” said Mike Deerfield, Chief Executive Officer of Deerfield.com. “In addition to the trusted Kerio brand, this new firewall expands the level of flexibility and security features we can offer our corporate and enterprise customers,” Deerfield continued.
Kerio ServerFirewall combines proven technologies--stateful network filtering and intrusion detection--with application hardening, a feature most commonly found in personal, application-based firewalls. These technologies work in tandem to protect the server from attacks specifically targeting the server OS and from security holes inherent in the server applications running on it. Application hardening introduces three capabilities not found in other server firewall solutions:
- Process Spawning: Kerio ServerFirewall will automatically deny a process the ability to spawn an executable file.
- Executable File Protection: This function automatically denies a process from modifying executable files on the server.
- System Tampering: This function prevents a process from successfully modifying special areas of the server operating system.
“Kerio ServerFirewall offers more than perimeter protection,” said Deerfield. “Its application hardening feature constantly supervises application behavior and blocks unauthorized, suspicious calls to the operating system,” Deerfield explained. “It protects against buffer overflow attacks as well as other attacks that exploit security holes in server applications, backdoor applications, executable files, and system tampering. As most corporate server systems run mission critical applications, this specialized host-based protection is an essential layer in network security,” Deerfield concluded.
Kerio ServerFirewall is also differentiated by its Remote Management capability. From remote installation and configuration, to monitoring and automatic updates, ensuring maximum protection of server resources is possible from any web browser, anywhere on the Internet, at any time. Kerio ServerFirewall’s Remote Management is web-based and requires no additional remote administration tools.
