Release Notes for MailScan for SMTP 5.2

  1. New cumulative updates added.

  22. SMTP - Order of checking (after SMTP accepts a connection) modified.
  23. SMTP - When RBL check fails, option to close connection immediately is given. This option is disabled by default. So if the check fails, it will go till RCPT stage and then keep giving 554 error.
  24. SMTP - When an IP is put in reject list, option to close connection immediately is given. This option is disabled by default. So if the check fails, it will go till RCPT stage and then keep giving 554 error.
  25. RASPOP - It will delete/quarantine mails which comes from rejected IPs.
  26. RASPOP - POP Download Configuration has IP Blocking details added.
  27. RASPOP - POP Downloader, if it failed to download mails, used to leave behind MS_ files. Now these are correctly deleted.
  28. MAILSCAN - Checks the received headers for rejected IPs and deletes the mail if one found.
  29. MAILSCAN - Checks for German spam and if found, it deletes the mail.
  30. SMTP - Router Log added to give precise information about delivery/non-delivery of mails.
  31. SMTP - Checks whether "RCPT TO" user exists on the primary domain or not , if the ProxyUserVerification option(Gateway Configuration -> Advanced Options-> Authentication) is enabled.

Release Notes for MailScan for MDaemon version 4.20
  1. Cumulative updates
  2. Extremely fast Multi-threaded IPC based, object-type Scanner that will allow integration with multiple AntiVirus Engines.
  3. Memory and System Areas will be checked for worms & viruses, before installation continues.
  4. Bug Fixed: Sometimes mails used to remain in RemoteQ for long periods of time before getting scanned & delivered. Corrected.
  5. Graphical reporting added.
  6. All warning mails will now have a line "Received:", indicating the IP address of the client which initiated the mail.
  7. Few more vulnerabilities taken care in Mail Scanning logic.

Release Notes for VisNetic MailScan for SMTP Server 4.2a.
  1. SMTP - Facility to specify RCPT TO restrictions added. Now you can specify the only domains to which mails can be sent & domains to which mails cannot be sent.
  2. SMTP - Facility to give multiple RBL Servers added.
  3. An obscure bug would allow relaying by the SMTP. Corrected.
  4. When you go to advanced tab, the last tab selected would be remembered.
  5. SMTP Router - Under some conditions, router would keep trying to send mails out, even when it gets the "user not found" error. Corrected.
  6. SMTP - Size restriction can be configured for individual users/ domains.
  7. New Cumulative updates and new AntiVirus DLL.

  14. Sometimes UUENCODED attachments used to be shown as improperly encoded and deleted. Corrected.
  15. Updates are now taken before installation gets completed, in order to ensure that MWAV toolkit utility can detect all the latest viruses.
  16. SPOOLER.EXE used to try too many times to send warning messages, leading to high DNS queries (UDP). These tries have been reduced significantly.
  17. Every quarantined mail will have the subject, reason and sender address in the footer, so that it becomes easy for the administrator to put details into the white list.
  18. Graphical reporting added.

  20. Authentication using Netscape 7.1 was failing. Bug corrected.

    Earlier content-filtration module was a single-threaded "dumb" module. Easy to use, but difficult to configure. Now, we have made significant modifications to the content-filtering modules to make use of a new "weighted average" algorithm. Every sentence/word is allocated pre-defined averages & the SPAM engine is triggered when the combined values of all the words found goes above 100.

    Release Notes for MailScan for MDaemon version 3.10
    1. Minor bug when installing on MD 3.x corrected. MD 3.x has a bug because of which, if MD 3.x encounters an APPLYNOW.SEM, it will reconfigure itself properly, but crash on a POP3 access.

      Earlier, because of a bug in 3.00, MS used to create a APPLYNOW.SEM everytime you reboot the PC. Now it will not do so.

    2. Content-Scanning can be optionally configured to be disabled for outgoing mails (CheckContentForOutgoingMailsAlso).

    3. New Cumulative Updates added to default setup.

    4. Option available to avoid any kind of Warning Mails to local recipients. This has been given because many customers get tons of warning mails, either because of content-violation or virus activity (DoNotSendWarningMailsToRecipientsInLocalDomains).

    5. Sometimes, because of strict confirmation of standards, UUEncoded mails used to be tagged as corrupted mails. This setting has now been removed (StrictConfirmation).

    6. Option of Not Checking For Content when Mails are received from certain domains *or* Sent to certain domains, now added. This setting is common with the setting of Script Checks (ScriptCheckDisabledForMailsTo and ScriptCheckDisabledForMailsFrom)

    7. Updated list of content-filtering PHRASES.TXT.

    8. Timeout of SPOOLER increased & retries now added.

    9. Option added to Delete All Attachments in an email if an Execution Script Tag is found in HTML mails.

    MSMD3 has the following major changes:

    5. Function to run a program after successful downloads of updates, added. The program can also accept parameters which includes script tags like %d for domain-name, %s for system-date and %c for computer name.

      This new feature can be used to access some specific URL to notify successfull updates.

    6. Control of disclaimers for local-to-local emails added.

    7. Modifications to internal algorithms to take care of Outlook Express and other vulnerabilities (Thanks to Andreas Marx, Mark Ackermans, securityfocus.com, Valentijn Sessink, edvicesecurity.com, security.nnov.ru and other people/organizations who have taken immense efforts to document and test the vulnerabilities).

    8. If Subject line has QP encoding, this will now be properly recognized.
