CRN Test Center Gives Kerio WinRoute Firewall High Marks|
Review Showcases Internet Access Control And Integrated Web Content Filtering Capabilities
GAYLORD, MI — November 9, 2004 — Emphasizing the need for protection against the costs and liabilities associated with employee abuse of Internet privileges, CRN’s Test Center gave Kerio WinRoute Firewall high marks for its web content filtering capabilities. Earning a score of 8 out of 10, WinRoute Firewall was also praised for its effective, yet easy to configure firewall, built-in VPN and integrated virus scanning. Read the full review.
“WinRoute Firewall is the current market leader in Internet sharing software and has been a popular addition to Deerfield.com’s product suite, ” said Mike Deerfield, CEO of Deerfield.com, an international provider of security and messaging software and top distributor for Kerio products. “Benefiting from a base of hundreds of thousands of Internet sharing software customers, we have been very successful in getting WinRoute Firewall into the hands of corporate users looking for a stable, easy to use and powerful gateway firewall solution.”
In addition to its ICSA certified firewall, secure VPN and virus scanning capabilities, CRN technicians cite WinRoute Firewall’s Internet access controls—specifically, one capability that allows administrators to require user login before connecting to the Internet. “This allows access policies to be custom-tailored for specific users, no matter their IP address. The firewall also lets administrators set traffic limits, including a quota for upload, download or both, or even limit the amount of traffic on a per-day or per-month basis.”
CRN reviewers also cite the optional integrated ISS Orange Web Filter designed to block access to 58 categories of Web content. “The ISS Orange Web Filter is a Web content database containing more than 4 billion pages and 20 million URLs. If a requested Web page isn't listed in the database, the URL is submitted to ISS to be classified within 24 hours. When a user attempts to visit a Web site, the firewall automatically searches the ISS database. If a page is found in the database, user access to the page is denied. The software can also issue a warning that the page has been logged for administrative review.”
“Security-conscious organizations understand the risk potential associated with misuse of their Internet connection,” explained Deerfield. “Strict access control and comprehensive web content filtering constitute another critical layer in corporate network security. Kerio WinRoute Firewall with the integrated ISS Orange Web Filter provides this layer of security.”
Pricing and Availability
WinRoute Firewall is available starting at $399.00 USD for a 10-user base license. The ISS Orange Web Filter starts at $249.00 USD for 10-users.
